Can’t sleep thinking too much?
You’re tired, but your mind keeps rehearsing tomorrow. You don’t need to finish every thought before you can rest.
Try one small way to set things down. These are general wind-down ideas, not a treatment for insomnia or a promise of sleep.
Give tomorrow a place to wait
On paper, write a short list of things you need to remember tomorrow. Keep it practical: one task or next step per line.
You’re not solving everything tonight. Set the list aside once the important things have somewhere to wait.
If writing starts another round of planning, stop. You can leave it for tomorrow, or simply name one thing in your head.
Let your breathing stay easy
If it feels comfortable, let your breath slow gently. Don’t force a deep breath or hold it.
There’s no score to reach and no need to count perfectly. Let your attention return to the next easy breath when it wanders.
Stop if you feel dizzy, breathless, or uncomfortable. Breathing normally is fine; this step is optional.
If you’re still wide awake
Trying harder to sleep can become another job. You don’t have to keep doing it.
If you can get up safely, sit somewhere comfortable and do something quiet, such as reading a relaxing book.
Keep enough light to move safely. Return to bed when you feel sleepy, rather than checking the clock for a deadline.
If getting up is unsafe or difficult, don’t force it. Choose a comfortable, quiet way to rest where you are.
What this advice can and can’t do
